Death via Coffee
Her tender eyes glint with excitement
‘Here’s your drink, sir” motioning
To the majestic pillar endowed with
scripture foretelling wisdom passed
from those on high.
With a glorious fanatical smile I
embrace the cup filled with life’s
wholeness and goodness energizing
the weak and weary daily.
As I bring the cup close
To offer perfect lip service, I stop
dazzled by the sensual aroma
making my eyes wander in complete
satisfaction. Delighted I breathe deep
my own individual crack
personalized to my tastes,
I close in, to my potion
proffering a kiss though I know
I shall not be denied. The first touch
is deadly, like a heated poison
Masochistically I wager death
With pleasantry, as I gulp.
Gluttonously savoring
each drop of the tainted
and pleasing liquid.
Oh ye villainous corporation
With your tantalizing seductions
I know you well.
And yet I return to pursue
Death via coffee.

Two by Two
(We were supposed to meditate and travel and view our surroundings, then make a poem about what we saw)
We march in file
two by two on a journey,
destination unknown.
Through the cold in silence,
dodging pitfalls
and avoiding lances
of water, unsuccessfully
Zebras, steadily pacing
a plaid spread for cover
white and blue alternating
progressing to their resting place
the surface breaks,
circle upon circle
ripple upon ripple.
among the silence, crisp
air invades our lungs.
Droplets explode on impact,
as we gather in a mob
clinging each other for
warmth and cover.
Two by Two we stand
Two by Two we return

I hate the weatherman!
I Hate the Weatherman!
I hate the weatherman!
Everyday like clockwork,
I, the loyal geek that I am,
would check weather.com
Today's report was no different
"Chance of rain."
It was like this yesterday--
which was sunny...
This day the weatherman was right.
what a job it must be,
to be able to predict the next day's
weather...like God
Only to be wrong--
God isn't wrong.
If he is wrong, it's called "overcast"
What the hell is "overcast"?
I hate the weatherman!
There are those few days that
I want to wash my car.
The sun is out and shining brightly
On a day when it was supposed to rain
So I wash my car…it rains the next day
Because the weatherman
said it would be sunny
I hate the weatherman!
Except those few days that
You see them wear an outfit that
Compliments the blue screen effect
And the effects are swirling on their
Chest. I don’t hate them then
But I do laugh. Until they say it’s sunny.
I hate the weatherman.
And my shoes are wet.

The Power of Clean
("The Zen of Housework" poem about the experience of doing--fully doing, with complete presence--the most trivial and pedestrian of household tasks.)
I requested the help of a hero today
to do battle with the nefarious
soap scum, culminating and
spreading like a disease
across the city's glass walls
Pre-warned of this venture,
Mr. clean recruits the service of
the Scrubbing Bubbles happily
milling about playing tag
like children on a sunny day
With grace and intent
like a magician's hand gesture
Mr. Clean swabs the deck
with his weapon of choice,
an oversized erasure
Defeated the weakened soap scum
disperse and escape through a
torrent of water into the drain.
Three cheers for our hero, Savior
of our glistening city
A pendant now hangs in
memory of their heroic feats.
The bubbles guarding and
sending sentries hour on hour
to inspect the city
Though Mr. Clean knows
that the battle is never over
as he lies, waiting...waiting

Dance with a stranger
(Exercise was to continue the poem in your own terms)
With a satisfying snap
and a push of its
shovel feet, the turtle
submerges into the once clear
and now dust filled pond.
A rustling of the reeds,
a ripple announces,
another's arrival
expectantly I wait, in mild entertainment
The sound is faint, like a child
blowing into grass
Chirp Twee Chirp--
Soothing and rhythmic--
Sighing I glance up towards the sky
Amused I draft a story about
the energizer bunny saving
a goat from the evil 3-headed Yoshi.
As the bunny--
collides with the others,
the sun disappears and illuminates
the soft clouds, which are left behind
I smile and look towards the water
At long last a tiny shadow
darts quickly--
Too small to tell
Finally it shows its beady eyes
Once hidden by the lilies
Cautiously I look--
through the dust water breathing ever so silently
I get on all fours, padding softly--
creeping around the pond to see
what would I find? I gasp--
As a small frog tap-dances on my head
"My Prince!" I cry grabbing at the frog
My prince is too quick, disappears--
back into the lilies
to startle another princess.

Turtle - Mary Oliver
Now I see it--
it nudges with its bulldog head
the slippery stems of the lilies, making them tremble;
and now it noses along in the wake of the little brown teal
who is leading her soft children
from one side of the pond to the other; she keeps
close to the edge
and they follow closely, the good children--
the tender children,
the sweet children, dangling their pretty feet
into the darkness.
And now will come--I can count on it--the murky splash,
the certain victory
of that pink and gassy mouth, and the frantic
circling of the hen while the rest of the chicks
flare away over the water and into the reeds, and my heart
will be most mournful
on their account. But, listen,
what's important?
Nothing's important
except that the great and cruel mystery of the world,
of which this is a part,
not be denied. Once,
I happened to see, on a city street, in summer,
a dusty, fouled turtle plodding along--
a snapper--
broken out I suppose from some backyard cage--
and I knew what I had to do--
I looked it right in the eyes, and I caught it--
I put it, like a small mountain range,
into a knapsack, and I took it out
of the city, and I let it
down into the dark pond, into
the cool water,
and the light of the lilies,
to live.
With a satisfying snap
and a push of its
shovel feet, the turtle
submerges into the once clear
and now dust filled pond.
A rustling of the reeds,
a ripple announces,
another's arrival
expectantly I wait, in mild entertainment

Lafayette Crosses
A sea of white washes over, with specks of red and blue.
A star shines amidst the ocean, with a moon just behind
Green life surrounds the sky above
Clouds breeze by with their cheerful smile
I walk down the line meeting one by one
Touching my brow as I pass
Sometimes I cry, at other times I kneel
I also stand in respect, and honor
Sometimes when I look there is a face
Of a man I never knew, but I knew
He is always a kind man, with a heart of gold
The tales he told would mesmerize me
I find myself wishing I was there
To help, to hold, to love
He shakes in the wind
What’s done is done
Sometimes a woman would show her face
Tear stricken, lined with sweat.
I’d open my arms to her
She’d smile and nod.
No, go… live.

God is Good!
Ok I've never been the one to say God is Good or anything like that. I seldom have prayed in the past and it was always the lukewarm, "Please bless my family, the food, my dog Amen" sort of prayer. With that and the combination of the message Chinhwe spoke of yesterday, I'm just awe-struck. Here's the story
My parents wiped my credit card debt away back in September of 2009. Like $2000 worth. Yeah go go college moving out debt, and etc. So anyways I was studying at Panera and didn't quite have alot of money in my debit account being I haven't worked since June 2009. So I charged it to this credit card thinking, I can handle like $10 and pay it back with my debit. Well seems my card had a annual fee. Of $75. So I checked my balance and i was astounded to hear it was $80 something dollars. I was like "what?!? i just charged $10 from panera!" I checked it out and heard about the fee and groaned. Of course I was attempting to go half-sies with my bff at E.J. Phair and my card was declined to my embarassment. So I of course was unable to pay it.
Did I pray? no.
Why? because i'm a retard and doesn't know when to ask for help.
Anyways, the credit card company started doing it's weekly-monthly calls. I being of the responsible sort, ignored them.
Today is 2/1/2010 1:49am. I just checked my balance on this card because my big sister decided to give me a check for watching my nephew. Sort of tacky I know but I'm poor. And they know i'm poor.
I was hoping to find out my latest min and attempt to pay it with the check.
Well...

As you can see. It's all gone.
Zilch, Zero, Nada!
I don't know what to say. but Wow, God is Good.
