It was that day I died

I'm not sad or anything :P This poem was inspired by a scene in Charlie St. Cloud. It is a villanelle and this phrase the main character said and it struck me. So I thought it would be challenging to write this. I hope it works.
It was that day I died
The sound of glass cracking
I’m trying not to cry
Sirens wailing in the distance
My shoulders bloody and convulsing
It was that day I died
Eyes shut in grievance
Mind scattered wondering
I’m trying not to cry
You lay in my arms in silence
Your chest slowly breathing
It was that day I died
I prayed for guidance
but I knew you were leaving
I’m trying not to cry
I shouldn’t wish for vengeance
but I can’t go on without you living
It was that day I died
I’m trying not to cry.
